  • Recertification, too easy?

3 years I was awarded the MCSE: Data Platform certification and as per the recertification rules, I needed to recertify this year to keep it active. So shortly after Christmas I set about looking into what exams I needed to take and brushing up on all those new features in 2014 that I’ve yet to try out in anger.

It came as a bit of a nice surprise to find out that I was actually able to recertify by taking and passing a prescribed set of courses within the Microsoft Virtual Academy (MVA). …

  • What to do next certification wise

I feel rather flat today. I passed the 3rd entry level 2012 exam a few hours ago, data warehousing to make me an MCSA, but I feel like I'm looking at a dead end. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fairly happy that I passed the exam which incidentally seem to have a much higher than normal number of questions on that level of exam, but I was only really chipping through these exams on my way to try to achieve the MCSM. Average book that covers …

  • SQL Server 2008 Administration: Real-World Skills for MCITP Certification and Beyond

      DBA, Certification, Book

    Publisher: Sybex

    Format: Kindle

I purchased this book to help me through my MCITP but I wasn't entirely happy with it. This book appeals to you as it claims to cover both required exams of the MCITP DBA certification and that was the main selling point to me. However, it does skim through quite a number of areas very quickly, leaving you to go elsewhere to learn that aspect of the technology. There were also a small number of errors in the book, but on the whole it is a good read for what it is.
